Curse of the Cancelled Show

((Sorry, been off for a long while - COVID household as different members got it one by one so was housebound for 3 weeks at varying stages of illness))

In the meantime, I've been trying to catch up on TV I've missed for a long time. What else can you do in isolation over Christmas and New Year. Write stories, you say? Absolutely not. Productivity, IN THIS ECONOMY!? Ahem. Regardless, I have been watching certain shows and thinking "huh, I don't feel fulfilled or satisfied with that ending", only to find that the show was cancelled prematurely. Ho hum.

Apparently Netflix has a problem with cancelling after a couple of seasons. But the one that kicked me in the nads was Truth Seekers. It's on Prime, so no tv show seems to be safe. A black comedy about ghost hunting with Nick Frost, Simon Pegg in a wig, and Julian Barrett? Gold. I finished it, extremely happy with what I watched, only to find that Amazon has cancelled it.

From a creative's point of view, it's extremely disheartening. To put hard work into a story you want to tell, only to have the rug pulled out from under your feet is not nice. You can see why folks are moving more and more to self publishing in the day and age of the internet and social media. Yes, you don't get as much clout and coverage as traditional methods (publishing through penguin, ooh err, would be a grand, eh?), but at least you are guaranteed to own your work and be able to tell the story you wish to tell.

Hwyl fawr/goodbye,

-C
